What's New in Triply 2.0

August 2026

2.0 is the import release. Almost everything in it comes from the same observation: the moment people actually decide to use Triply is when they paste a link and watch real places appear. So we widened what you can paste, made the wait visible, stopped charging for things that go wrong, and added an assistant that can work with what you have collected.

YouTube videos and Shorts now work

Paste any public YouTube link — a Short, a full travel vlog, or a youtu.be share link — and Triply extracts the places from it. Not from the title and description: from the video itself, including what is shown on screen and what the narrator says. That is how it catches the ramen place whose name only ever appeared on a shopfront.

A Short takes seconds. A ten to fifteen minute vlog takes a minute or two, because the whole thing has to be watched first. Very long uploads can time out — and when they do, nothing is charged. Full walkthrough here.

Triply AI

A travel assistant that has to look things up before it answers. It can search your saved spots and trips, find places near you, check opening hours live, search thousands of travel videos the community has imported, and propose a trip — which you approve before anything is created.

The point is that it cannot invent a restaurant, which is the failure mode of nearly every AI trip planner. Here is how it works and where it falls short. Triply AI is a premium feature.

Re-importing the same video is free

Send a friend a link, import it, then import it again next week — you no longer pay twice. Triply recognises a video it has already processed and returns the places immediately, without spending anything. It is also much faster, since there is nothing to re-analyse.

You can watch the import happen

Imports used to be a spinner and a guess. Now the place names appear as soon as they are found, and each row fills in with its photo as that place is matched to a real location. The header counts up — "Found 7 of 11 places" — so a slow import looks like progress instead of a hang.

A push when your spots are ready

If you close the app mid-import, you now get a notification when the places are ready, with the count. Previously you had to remember to come back and check.

Paste is offered before you ask for it

If you copy a TikTok, Instagram or YouTube link and then open Triply, the app offers to import it — and if you are new, the first-run flow leads with the video you just copied instead of a generic tutorial. Nothing is imported without you tapping Import.

Honest failures

When an import finds nothing, you get a real screen telling you so, instead of an alert stacked over a spinner. Infrastructure errors no longer leak raw technical strings into the UI. And an import that returns zero places is refunded rather than quietly charged — which is the sort of thing that should never have needed fixing, but did.

After the import, somewhere to go

Saving imported spots used to end at a dismissible alert. Now it lands on a proper step: add them to a list, see them on the map, or import another video. Places also group into cities more sensibly — a multi-country trip no longer dumps almost every stop into one "other places" bucket.

Creator and invite codes at signup

If a creator gave you a code, there is now a field for it on the signup screen instead of a link you had to open first. It works whether you sign up with email, Google or Apple.

Under the hood

  • Crash reporting added, so problems get found without waiting for someone to write a review about them.
  • Imports resolve places faster, with better retry behaviour when a lookup is slow.
  • Fixed a case where people who had just subscribed could still hit a paywall.
  • Fixed a double-charge risk when tapping Buy during a purchase restore.
  • A trip that silently stalls now fails honestly within fifteen minutes instead of spinning forever.

Common questions

How do I update to Triply 2.0?

Update Triply from the App Store or Google Play. If automatic updates are on, you will get it without doing anything.

Does importing the same video twice cost twice?

No. From 2.0, a video Triply has already processed returns its places immediately and free.

What happens if an import fails?

You are told plainly that nothing was found, and you are not charged. An import that returns zero places is refunded.
